iPad/iPhone
iPod touch
OVERVIEW
iTrackU2 offers the most comprehensive Tracking and Alert
Notification
technology to our members currently available for those iPad, iPhone, and
iPod touch
devices that have the latest Apple OS installed. Apart from
significant performance improvements, iTrackU2 also provides an upgrade path
for our apps developed for devices running on the previous generation of the
Apple OS 2.x.
In addition to the core functionality listed below, the new iTrackU2
app gives the owner the option to customize features in real-time through In
App purchases at nominal upgrade fees.
iTrackU2 is a native device application that is highly integrated with
the monitoring and feature customizations of the web-based Lost and Found
Registry - a service specifically designed for
iPad, iPhone, and iPod users, and hosted at iTrackMobile.com.

|
NOTE: The iTrackU2 application tracking features described
here are only accessible to the user if the
iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch Home Screen has not been locked through
Passcode protection. However, the Lock Screen will always be
displayed when the device is powered on. For this reason, iTrackU2 will
generate a default Wallpaper ID image to be assigned as the Lock
Screen. The Wallpaper ID displays sufficient contact information to a finder to
return the device to the rightful owner via the iTrackMobile website. In
addition, customizable Alert Notifications are pushed to a lost device
and display owner contact information to instruct the finder on how to return
the unit.
Alert Notifications are displayed and include a voice message to
the finder, even if the device is Passcode protected. |
Here are the core features available when
iTrackU2 is run from the device Home Screen:
- Establishes a membership enrollment for your iPad, iPhone, or iPod
touch with the Lost and Found Registry at
iTrackMobile.com,
directly from the devices' Home Screen. Membership is free.
- Unlike the web-based enrollment process, the iTrackU2 application
allows for a simpler and unrestricted setup, utilizing features that are
native to the device.
- Provides a standard Wallpaper ID image for prominent display on the
device Lock Screen to assist in the recovery of a lost unit.
- Displays customizable Alert Messages on the device screen through the
use of the Apple Push Notification Service (APNS), a technology which
interfaces the iTrack Lost and Found Registry with special Apple servers to
facilitate the distribution of important messages in real-time in the event
a member declares a device as 'lost'. These messages can be displayed on a
Passcode protected device, or alternatively also start the
iTrackU2 app (if the device is unlocked) to offer the finder more
comprehensive options to return the device to
the owner.
- Allows the device owner to record a customized voice message for
automatic playback to the finder.
- Captures tracking information by Internet IP Address as well as Device
Location Services. This information can be useful to supplement a Police
Report in an effort to recover a device that was reported as lost or stolen.
- Displays an Alert Notification Badge on the Home Screen Application Icon. This
entices a user to launch the iTrackU2 app.
- Can send notifications to the owner's contact email address each time
device activity is detected.
- In case of theft, owner has the option to have device tracking
information automatically interfaced with the premier online Investigation
System in use by U.S. Law Enforcement. This feature is provided free of
charge.
- Includes a feature to simulate device loss to demonstrate the
functionality of application behavior. Of course, in the event of a real
loss, the device tracking is configured and monitored under the Member
Profile of the web-based Lost and Found Registry at iTrackMobile.com.
- All device activity is filed at the Lost and Found Registry for each
device. A maximum history of 5 tracking
events are stored per device with the on-line Registry. If more than 5
activity events occur, then the oldest entries are deleted to make room for
the most recent ones.
The activity history can be downloaded at any time
by the member in either a CSV or KML format for import into a spreadsheet
program or Google Earth, respectively. At the users option, tracking history
can be expanded through an In App purchase (see optional features
below).
- When a device is lost, a multi-language Alert Screen is displayed to
enable the finder to contact the owner for the return of the unit.
English, Spanish, and German language displays can be selected by the user
or are automatically initialized based on the International setting of the
device.
- Extensive documentation is included. Overall features of the iTrack Lost
and Found Registry are described in detail throughout the website at
iTrackMobile.com
The following optional features can be upgraded and activated from within
iTrackU2 by using In App real-time purchasing on the App Store with your iTunes
Account:
- Enabling the customization of user-selected web sites for
activity tracking from the iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch Home
Screen. Web Clips are place onto the Home Screen by means of a secured
Configuration Profile. The tracking information can be helpful
to a Law Enforcement Agency in the recovery of a lost or stolen device.
- Enabling the owner to customize an unlimited number of Wallpaper IDs by
selecting images from the Photo Library or using stock images delivered with the
iTrackU2 app. The customized Wallpaper IDs are stored on the device and can
be selectively configured for display on the Lock Screen.
- Expanding the tracking history and number of associated Map Displays by
increasing storage space for your device profile at the iTrack Lost and
Found Registry. Tracking history can be expanded in form of Tracking
Storage Bundles. Each bundle can accommodate 5
tracking points and associated Map Displays.
A maximum of 9 additional Tracking Storage Bundles can be configured per device. This system-wide
maximum can be increased by the iTrack Lost and Found Registry administrator
depending on membership demand.

APP RATING
iTrackU2 enables the user to access the Internet. To comply with Apple's publishing policy, this requires the app to be rated as '17+' because the user can
connect to any type of website, making it impossible to restrict content from within the app.
Please note that there is no objectionable material contained within the
iTrackU2 app.
CORE FEATURE SUMMARY
1. Membership Signup
 |
After iTrackU2 is installed, the first step is to register your
membership and device with iTrackMobile.com.
You need to provide a unique and functioning email address. This address will be
used as your Member ID as well as for electronic communication by the system.
For access security reasons, you need to assign a password which will enable you
to log into your Member Profile at iTrackMobile.com as well as signing into the
iTrackU2 application on your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
In addition, the Serial Number of the device must also be provided. The
Serial Number uniquely identifies an Apple device. The Lost and Found Registry
will not allow multiple devices to be registered under the same Serial Number.
The Serial Number can be obtained by navigating from the device Home Screen
to: Settings -->General -->About -->Serial Number.
After successfully registering, a default Wallpaper ID image is downloaded to
the device and stored in the Photo Library (iPad, iPod touch) or Camera Roll (iPhone).
From there, the image should be manually assigned as the device Lock Screen
Wallpaper.
Please
check here for sample screenshots and instructions illustrating the
iTrackU2
membership setup process.
|
2. Tracking Configuration
|

|
After the membership has been established and the device registered, iTrackU2
can be launched from the Home Screen to configure and test the tracking features
of the system. The user needs to first log into the application by providing the
membership password.
Touching the 'Device Tracking' heading on the main iTrackU2 screen
will open the configuration views.
Device tracking is based on a user activating the iTrackU2
application or customized Web Clips from the Home Screen (refer to Optional Upgrade Features below).
Whenever device tracking is active, location information and IP address data is
collected and stored at the Lost and Found Registry under the members' device
profile. Although tracking configuration parameters can be established directly
from the device, the settings managed by the user under the members' device
profile stored at the Registry will take precedence.
Following are the Device Tracking setup features available from
iTrackU2:
a) Stealth Mode. When set, this will operate device tracking 'quietly'
without indicating to the user that the device was declared as lost.
If this option is not set, then an alert page is displayed in addition to
collecting tracking information for a lost device.
Device loss is declared by the owner under the members' device profile at the
Lost and Found Registry website iTrackMobile.com.
b) eMail Alert. When set, an email message is send to the members'
Contact Email Address each time activity is encountered.
c) Only When Lost. When set, device tracking is only performed when the
owner declared the device as lost.
d) APNS with Lock. When set, indicates that the device is Passcode
protected. Alert messages are pushed to the device by the system using owner
contact information as specified in the Member Profile. The Alert Messages
contain sufficient information to advise the finder on how to contact the owner
to return the device. Note that Apple Push Notification Service (APNS) alerts
are displayed even if the device is Passcode protected. In the event that the
device is not Passcode protected, APNS alerts are displayed and can also cause
the iTrackU2 app to be launched to provide more comprehensive
instructions to the finder on how to return the device.
The following configuration option only applies if the Web Site
tracking feature upgrade was purchased:
e) URL Caption. When set, device tracking will also capture the URL of
the web site associated with the Web Clip.
The device tracking history captured at the Lost and Found Registry can be
viewed from within iTrackU2 (touch the Tracking button). This enables
review of results in real-time when performing functionality testing with the
device. Tracking information is captured and listed in chronological order based
on U.S. Central Time, with focus on IP Address interpretation. The Lost and
Found Registry is utilizing a commercial IP Address database to determine the
Internet Service Provider (ISP) and approximate location from where the device
was used. If Device Location Services information was tracked also, then the
location and date/time of the device is shown on a map, including the
approximate street address, if possible.
Please
check here for sample screenshots and more detailed instructions
demonstrating the iTrackU2
tracking configuration process.
A simulation feature, discussed
here in more detail, enables the user to operate the device as if
it was lost without sending information to the largest on-line investigation
system in use by US Law Enforcement, and managed by LeadsOnline.com.
|
3. Alerts and Notifications
|

|
The existence of important messages and alerts are indicated through the display
of a badge number at the top corner of the iTrackU2 icon on the Home
Screen.
The display of a Badge Number also entices a user to launch the application,
which will cause tracking information to be transmitted to the iTrack Lost
and Found Registry.
Notifications usually are informative messages pertaining to the running state
of the application based on information received from the iTrack Registry server
or configuration options set on the device. Notifications can only be accessed by logging into
the device.
 Two types of Alert
Messages are generated by the Lost and Found Registry:
|
|

|
When an owner declares a device
as lost or stolen at the Lost and Found Registry via
iTrackMobile.com, a Alert Screen is displayed whenever a user activates
the iTrackU2 application or any of the Web Clips
configured for tracking (refer to Optional Upgrade Features below). The Alert Screen and owner contact
instructions can currently be displayed in several languages: English,
German, or Spanish. More language are expected to be added in the
future.
If the device International setting is any one of these languages,
then the Alert Screen is displayed in the preferred localization. The
default language is English.
|
  |
A custom Alert Message can be recorded by the user. This message
will be played back when the device is declared as 'lost' and the
iTrackU2 app is being launched from the Home Screen or started
because of an APNS alert. |
OPTIONAL UPGRADE FEATURES SUMMARY
Optional upgrade features can be activated through In App purchases on
the App Store and include:
-
populating websites as Web Clips on the Home Screen, and then discretely tracking the device activity
based on their usage
-
the customization of an unlimited number of Wallpaper IDs
for display on the device Start-up Screen
-
adding server storage bundles to increase the tracking
history and associated map displays for a device
If the features listed above were purchase by members in the
past and are co-installed on a device with iTrackU2, then these features
will be automatically credited and activated.
Examples of automatic credits are the Wallpaper ID customization feature found in the
iTrackU and
moreWWW apps, or the tracking of Web Clips and Bookmarks feature
found in the
myWWW and
moreWWW apps. These apps were specifically designed to operate on
OS 2.x (although they will also run on OS 3.0 and up, without utilizing the latest
operating system features). iTrackU2 effectively provides and
upgrade path for any one
of these prior-generation apps.
NOTE: An automatic credit for the Wallpaper ID customization feature is also
extended if an upgrade was done from any of our free tracking apps (e.g.
iTrackMobile, iTrack4U).

After login, the system checks for available upgrades.
Available upgrades are dimmed on the Main Menu and can be activated when their
Heading is touched.
Touching the Upgrades button will also reveal installed and available
upgrades.

4. Tracking of Web Clips
 |
Another popular add-on feature of iTrackU2 is to customize web sites as
Web Clips on the Home Screen and discretely track
their usage.
Web Sites for tracking are collected and placed into a Web Clips Inventory
stored at iTrackMobile.com. The inventory holds the Web Clips to facilitate easy
restoration to the device in case the iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch
requires a reload of the Operating System. Web Clips are installed onto the
device Home Screen by means of a secured Configuration Profile. These Web Clips cannot be simply deleted from the Home Screen and function independent of the iTrackU2 app.
A Web Clip can
be customized for tracking by:
- Navigating to a web site of interest
- Adding the web site to the Web Clips Inventory for your device at iTrackMobile.com
- Adding an item from your Web Clips Inventory to the device Home Screen
.
Tracking will be performed prior to launching any one of the web sites
associated with these links. In the event the device is declared as lost or stolen, an Alert Message is displayed in place of the website associated with the Web Clip.
Depending on the device localization settings, alert messages are displayed in English, Spanish, or German. The default language
assignment is English.
Alert messages will not be displayed if the device tracking is configured in Stealth Mode.
Please
check here for sample screenshots and instructions describing the Web
Site tracking customization process.
|
5. Wallpaper ID
Customization
 |
iTrackU2 can be upgraded to enable customization of an unlimited number
of Wallpaper IDs directly from the
iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch.
A Wallpaper ID is customized by selecting a background image and superimposing a
text message that has sufficient information to enable a finder to contact the
owner via the iTrackMobile.com web site. The background image can either be
selected from a list of pictures supplied with the iTrackU2 application,
or by picking an image from the Photo Library of the device. The default
orientation of a Wallpaper ID is portrait. When a photo is picked from the
Library in landscape mode, the image is automatically rotated to portrait.
Images can be retrieved with or without editing enabled.
After composing and previewing the customized Wallpaper ID, the image is
uploaded to the members' device profile at iTrackMobile.com. The customized
image is also stored on the iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch for future
use.
The Wallpaper ID should be assigned as the device Wallpaper to assure
prominent display of the image when the device is powered on. The new Wallpaper
ID can be found in the Photo Library (iPad, iPod touch) or Camera Roll (iPhone).
Please
check here for sample screenshots and
instructions describing the iTrackU2
Wallpaper ID customization process.

6.
Increasing Tracking History and Map
Display Storage

|
The tracking history and number of associated Map Displays can be expanded by
increasing storage space for your device profile at the iTrack Lost and
Found Registry. Tracking history can be expanded in form of Tracking
Storage Bundles. Each bundle can accommodate 5
tracking points and associated Map Displays. A maximum of 9 additional Tracking Storage Bundles can be configured per device.
Storage bundles are treated like paid subscriptions and will only expire if
the owner deletes the device or associated membership from the iTrack Lost
and Found Registry.
