iPhone iPod touch

OVERVIEW

The main purpose of myWWW is to customize web sites for population as Web Clips on the Home Screen and Safari Bookmarks links and then discretely track the device location based on their usage.

If the owner declared the device as lost or stolen at the Lost and Found Registry, a Device Alert Display will prompt the user to help recover the unit.

myWWW is a native device application that is highly integrated with the monitoring and feature customizations of the web-based Lost and Found Registry - a service specifically designed for iPhone and iPod users, and hosted at iTrackMobile.com.

(shown in stealth mode)

NOTE: The myWWW application features described here are only accessible to the user if the iPhone or iPod touch Home Screen has not been locked through Passcode protection. However, the Start-up Screen will always be displayed when the device is powered on. For this reason, myWWW will generate a Wallpaper ID image to be assigned as the Start-up Screen. The Wallpaper ID displays sufficient contact information to a finder to return the device to the rightful owner via the iTrackMobile website.

Here are the main features available when myWWW is run from the device Home Screen:
  • Establishes a membership enrollment for your iPhone or iPod touch with the Lost and Found Registry at iTrackMobile.com, directly from the devices' Home Screen. Membership is free.

  • Unlike the web-based enrollment process, the myWWW application allows for a simpler and unrestricted setup, utilizing features that are native to the device.

  • Enables the customization of  user-selected  web sites for activity tracking from the iPhone or iPod touch  Home Screen and Safari Bookmarks section. The tracking information can be helpful  to a Law Enforcement Agency in the recovery of a lost or stolen device.

  • Tracking information is captured by Internet IP Address as well as Device Location Services. This information can be useful to supplement a Police Report in an effort to recover a device that was reported as lost or stolen.

  • Displays Alert Notification Badge on Home Screen Icon.

  • Can send notifications to the owner's contact email address each time device activity is detected.

  • In case of theft, owner has the option to have device tracking information automatically interfaced with the premier online Investigation System in use by U.S. Law Enforcement.

  • Includes a feature to simulate device loss to demonstrate the functionality of application behavior. Of course, in the event of a real loss, the device tracking is configured and monitored under the Member Profile of the web-based Lost and Found Registry at iTrackMobile.com.

  • All device activity is filed at the Lost and Found Registry for each device. A maximum history of 5 tracking events are stored per device with the on-line Registry. If more than 5 activity events occur, then the oldest entries are deleted to make room for the most recent ones.
The activity history can be downloaded at any time by the member in either a CSV or KML format for import into a spreadsheet program or Google Earth, respectively.

  • Fully integrated with the iTrackU application when installed on the same device.

  • Extensive documentation is included. Overall features of the iTrack Lost and Found Registry are described in detail throughout the website at iTrackMobile.com

FEATURE SUMMARY

1. Membership Signup

After myWWW is installed, the first step is to register your membership and device with iTrackMobile.com.
You need to provide a unique and functioning email address. This address will be used as your Member ID as well as for electronic communication by the system.
For access security reasons, you need to assign a password which will enable you to log into your Member Profile at iTrackMobile.com as well as signing into the myWWW application on your iPhone or iPod touch.

In addition, the Serial Number of the device must also be provided. The Serial Number uniquely identifies an Apple device. The Lost and Found Registry will not allow multiple devices to be registered under the same Serial Number. The Serial Number can be obtained by navigating from the device Home Screen  to: Settings -->General -->About -->Serial Number.

After successfully registering, a Wallpaper ID image is downloaded to the device and stored in the Photo Library (iPod touch) or Camera Roll (iPhone).
From there, the image should be manually assigned as the device Start-up Wallpaper.

Please check here for sample screenshots and instructions illustrating the myWWW membership setup process.

2. Tracking Configuration

After the membership has been established and the device registered, myWWW can be launched from the Home Screen to configure and test the tracking features of the system. The user needs to first log into the application by providing the membership password.
Touching the 'Device Tracking' heading on the main myWWW screen will open the configuration views.

Device tracking is based on a user activating either the myWWW application or customized web clips from the Home Screen or Safari Bookmarks section.

Whenever device tracking is active, location information and IP address data is collected and stored at the Lost and Found Registry under the members' device profile. Although tracking configuration parameters can be established directly from the device, the settings managed by the user under the members' device profile stored at the Registry will take precedence.
Following are the Device Tracking configuration options available from myWWW:

a) Stealth Mode. When set, this will operate device tracking 'quietly' without indicating to the user that the device was declared as lost.
If this option is not set, then an alert page is displayed in addition to collecting tracking information for a lost device.
Device loss is declared by the owner under the members' device profile at the Lost and Found Registry website iTrackMobile.com.

b) eMail Alert. When set, an email message is send to the members' Contact Email Address each time activity is encountered.

c) URL Caption. When set, device tracking will also capture the URL of the bookmarked web site.

d) Only When Lost. When set, device tracking is only performed when the owner declared the device as lost.

e) Reset Bookmarks. When set, check marks are reset for entries in the device Bookmarks Inventory at iTrackMobile.com.
These check marks are set when a particular web site is configured for tracking  on the device.

The device tracking history captured at the Lost and Found Registry can be viewed from within myWWW. This enables review of results in real-time when performing functionality testing with the device. Tracking information is captured and listed in chronological order based on U.S. Central Time, with focus on IP Address interpretation. The Lost and Found Registry is utilizing a commercial IP Address database to determine the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and approximate location from where the device was used. If Device Location Services information was tracked also, then the location and date/time of the device is shown on a map.

Please check here for sample screenshots and more detailed instructions demonstrating the myWWW tracking configuration process.

A simulation feature, discussed here in more detail, enables the user to operate the device as if it was lost without sending information to the largest on-line investigation system in use by US Law Enforcement, and managed by LeadsOnline.com.

3. Bookmarking and Tracking of Web Sites
The main feature of myWWW is to customize web sites for population as Web Clips on the Home Screen and Safari Bookmarks links and discretely track their usage.

Web Sites for tracking are collected and placed into a Bookmarks Inventory stored at iTrackMobile.com. The inventory holds the bookmarks to facilitate easy restoration to the device in case the iPhone or iPod touch requires a reload of the Operating System.

A Web Clip or Safari Bookmark can be customized for tracking by:
  1. Navigating to a web site of interest
  2. Adding the web site to the Bookmarks Inventory for your device at iTrackMobile.com
  3. Adding an item from your Bookmarks Inventory to the device Home Screen as a Web Clip or link in the Safari Bookmarks section
Tracking will be performed prior to launching any one of the web sites associated with these links.

Please check here for sample screenshots and instructions describing the Web Site tracking customization process.

4. Alerts and Notifications

The existence of important messages and alerts are indicated through the display of a badge number at the top corner of the myWWW icon on the Home Screen.

The display of a Badge Number also entices a user to launch the application, which will  cause tracking information to be transmitted to the iTrack Lost and Found Registry.

Notifications usually are informative messages pertaining to the running state of the application based on information received from the server or configuration options set on the device.

Alerts are critical messages waiting to be retrieved by the member at the iTrack Lost and Found Registry.
Retrieving these types of messages require that the member logs into the Member Profile section at the Registry.

Notifications can only be accessed by logging into the device.
